Olimpio Cammelli Museum of the Identity of Alta Garfagnana

The Olimpio Cammelli Museum of the Identity of Alta Garfagnana is set in a wonderful natural setting in the mountains of the Apuan Alps on the hill called "Casa" in the Municipality of Minucciano. The Museum collects a rich collection dedicated to traditional work and crafts of the past.

The museum is spread over two floors and includes objects dedicated to the many aspects of daily life in the area: we can rediscover the profession of the blacksmith, the knife-grinder, the weaver, the peasants and the many marble quarrymen who lived in this area.

The collection is also enriched by the testimonies of the Maggio tradition, a form of popular theatre that was very widespread until a few decades ago, with original costumes and acting texts.

The museum itinerary also includes a rich section relating to the history of the reconstruction of the Old Church dedicated to the Madonna del Patrocinio located next to the Museum. The church, after the earthquake of 1920, was abandoned for many years and only in 1983 the work to rebuild it began; these renovations lasted more than twenty years and were carried out thanks to the volunteers of the town who today are called the "heroes". The Museum tells this fascinating story through videos and photographs of the time.
